THRIVE is our school's student assistance program. A student assistance program is basically a fancy label for a team of school staff that meet regularly to make an effort to make sure no students are slipping through the cracks and to make sure that all students are getting what they need; academically, emotionally, and behaviorally. As part of this program we partner with a local service coordination agency, HSAO. Their job is to connect families to services of all types (outpatient counseling, school-based counseling, family focused in home counseling, etc.). Our contact from HSAO will come into school and meet with the student here during the school day to ask them some basic getting to know you questions and gather the student's perspective on how things are going (a screening). They will then contact the parent to gather information about the parent's perspective and needs as well. They then make recommendations for what would be the best fit for services for the student. The parents are under no obligation to adhere to their recommendations; they are just suggestions. If parents choose to pursue services, the HSAO liaison can also help get those things set up and can assist with any insurance issues, issues with medical assistance, etc.
Contact Miss Emily Hough, school counselor at [email protected] or Mr. Bobby Eastwood, AP, at [email protected] to get information and have your child participate in the program.
Student Assistance Program (SAP) Liaison and Screening Facts
What can the SAP Liaison do for you and your student?
The SAP Liaison collaborates with your school’s SAP Team, which includes counselors, teachers, school personnel, and agency personnel
The SAP Liaison provides consultation, education, and intervention to you and SAP Team members
The SAP Liaison can receive referrals from SAP Team members, other school staff, parents, or students
The screening will be completed with the student and will look at behavioral and emotional needs and assess any drug and alcohol concerns that may be present in the home, school, and community settings
The SAP Liaison will then contact you to discuss your concerns and the needs of your student
The screening helps the SAP Liaison determine what, if any, services might be appropriate for your student
If services are appropriate, the SAP Liaison will help you gain access to services by referring to outside service providers and providing additional resources as needed
The screening is NOT a clinical evaluation or assessment and does NOT take the place of a psychological or psychiatric evaluation
